Every parent worries when our little ones are not well. But help is at hand!
The Little Orange Book
The Little Orange Book helps parents of under-fives with practical information about common childhood conditions. Distributed to all new mums in Newcastle and Gateshead through health visitors, this little gem helps parents and carers to recognise and respond to a range of common diseases, illnesses and conditions as well as pointing you to the most appropriate service if you need further support.
You can pick up a copy of the Little Orange Book from your GP practice or download a copy here.
If you are unable to speak or understand English well, you are entitled to have an interpreter at NHS services. Say ‘interpreter’ to the receptionist and the language you need. When ringing 999 or NHS 111, say the language you need and they will get someone on the phone. You do not have to pay for using an interpreter.
The NHS Child Health app
If you prefer a handy app on your phone, the NHS Child Health app could be just the thing. Developed by paediatricians in the North East, the app offers easy to understand guidance on childhood illnesses, how to recognise when your child is unwell, and when and where to seek further treatment.
Just search for ‘NHS Child Health’ on Google Play or Apple’s App Store.
Long Covid
If you or your child have had new symptoms for a month or more and think you might have had Covid-19, support is available.
